    Our plans for 2020

2019 has nearly come to an end and it's time that we set out what our plans are for the future. This year has been a good one, we've achieved a lot of but not as much as we'd hoped, and with a whole stream of personal issues getting in the way for 2019, things have not been the smoothest, however going forward 2020 looks to be bright. 2019 for us was a year of mainly improving our back end systems and allowing for more automation to allow us to run things more efficiently, but we're no

    Changing Paths

We've made many achievements in 2019 and there's still many to go, however with that it has been decided that we are going to change our path as a community by shifting our focus on some new projects. Ever since Garry's Mod 13 has launched, it's always been difficult to get people playing gamemodes other than DarkRP or TTT, and while we've tried over the past 3 years, and while in some places we've had some success, it hasn't really paid off. So starting from today, our focus will be o

    Time to say goodbye

Well, it's time to say goodbye.       We've had a forum for almost 3 years now, however over the past 3 years, the activity has been very minimal. Today we are announcing the fact that the forums are going to be phased out by Q1 2020. With the start of the Summer Meetup voting, we created our own system for this and we plan to do the same for many things which are homed on the forum by the start of 2020. While the forum software we use will remain as our curren

    Replacing Confluence, Hello Macros

We set out to replace Confluence, which is currently used to store our documentation. However, it has a few issues: It costs money The design is not very easily customisable Relating to point #1, it's licensed by users. Confluence is a great product, and the people at Atlassian have done a fantastic job, however it does not meet our requirements. We introduced Content about a month ago. This was our answer to Confluence. It was not designed to compete with

Simplifying server updates (And making less mistakes)

Simplifying server updates (And making less mistakes)

I have spent the majority of today writing a new internal tool called WZDeploy. This tool will never see the light of day outside of our systems, however I'm writing this blog post for anyone who is interested in the internals of WarZone. So, WZDeploy has 3 components Command Line or "CMD" This does the brunt of the work, whenever we release an update, this will fire and update all the required packages on a server, simple enough right? However we wanted a solution that was s

Development of the new WarZone Discord Bot

Over the past week or so, I have been working on re-writing the WarZone Discord Bot. We had one before, but after a while, the API version got deprecated and the bot stopped working.  The old bot was a bit "meh", but don't get me wrong it was good, but very unstable. The previous bot was written in C# and had a Lua scripting layer added to it. The idea behind it was that you didn't need to recompile the bot to add functionality to it. You only had to simply create a new Lua file,

    What's coming in Update 14

Update 13.5 has just dropped, and we're now looking at Update 14, the next huge update from WarZone. So, what can be expected? Prestige Mode You probably noticed that when we added the 2018 Service Medals, we added not one, but 6. This is because you will be able to prestige up to 6 times in a single year. Each prestige you completed, the player will get rewarded items and money. We also intend on updating the existing ranking system to include drops and unlocks at certain le

    Automating Movie Nights

Over the past month, I've been working at automating the movie night events, so a human never needs to do anything, except one thing once every 6 months. Phase 1: Automation of the Server This was the first logical step. To do this, we have a separate movie night server with a module that does the following: Only allows users to go in one theater, Public Theater #1 Disables unneeded things like Popcorn, fists and drug dealers Disabling Text Hats Disabling t

Extracting Exchange 2013 Pictures for use in Windows

In Exchange 2013, Users can upload a picture and this will be used in Outlook and Lync/Skype for Business. Other scripts on the Internet appear to simply extract the thumbnail from Active Directory which is no good as it stores a 48x48 version and is stretched to fit in various places in Windows. So, another solution is needed. I created a script based on the one I found here: http://blog.jocha.se/tech/ad-user-pictures-in-windows-10 This w
